Open Acres is the dream project of Nate and Heather and would not be possible without the support of Schneiderwind Farm & Nursery.

Prior to starting Open Acres, Heather, Nate and their two cats, Felipe and Lu, were living in Queens.  Originally from Central Pennsylvania, Nate wore a broad range of hats while in New York: musician, executive assistant, pickle vendor, and pet shop manager, among others.  Heather worked as an art educator in social service centers, schools and museums across the city following a move from Chicago and studies in fine arts and education.

In 2008, an avocation in sustainable living and locally grown food led Nate to live and work on a small scale CSA in the Hudson Valley, where he was one of three people responsible for every aspect of the farm's operations and providing for 215 members.  Frequent visits enabled Heather to share in the experience, and soon, the two were busily preparing for a major life change.  A change that would draw upon their prior experiences, present endless opportunities for learning and growth, and allow Nate and Heather to be part of and contribute to a community in a new, exciting, meaningful way.

2010 launched Open Acres' first season.  Open Acres is a partnership between Heather, Nate and the Schneiderwind family.  Nate and Heather work together on every aspect of the farm's operations and are thrilled to be your growers.
